Here are some photos from a fairly standard week aboard Manonash in the San Juan Islands. Of course, unlike other charter companies, we do not follow the same rigid plan week-after-week, giving our guests the opportunity to experience something truly special! Learn more about our truly unique and private sailing charters in the San Juan Islands.
DAY ONE: Photo Tour
WELCOME! You arrive beautiful Friday Harbor on San Juan Island (by ferry or sea plane).
FIRST SAIL: We won’t waste any time getting away from the hustle and bustle of busy docks and take our first short sail to a secluded anchorage.
ANOTHER WORLD: The view of ocean, mountains, and rolling hills might help you break free from your daily constraints.
AFTERNOON STROLL: We will transport you to rolling hills looking out over wide open spaces.
SCENERY: Just steps from one of our secret anchorages is a view to die for – complete with wildlife.
STARE DOWN: As the sun dips below the horizon, you sip a glass of wine in front of your own private audience. Not a bad first day.
UNDER THE STARS: Back on the boat – away from the city lights, the edge of the Milky Way becomes luminous as you watch meteors light up the sky through your stateroom skylight.
DAY TWO: Photo Tour
MORNING COFFEE: You awaken to the smell of the sea and find yourself enjoying a cup of coffee in a location much more peaceful that your corner Starbucks.
MORNING STROLL: After breakfast, you take the dinghy ashore to explore the tide pools.
NOT ALONE: You look up into the tall grasses and notice that a friendly red fox has been following you.
TIME TO SAIL! There is nothing more satisfying than shutting down the engine and making way under sail alone.
NOT SO LUCKY! As we make our way to another secret location, we pass a cruise ship ferrying hundreds of passengers into crowded boats and crowded streets. You think to yourself, “Suckers!”
AFTERNOON NAP: You do your best to read that new novel, but you fall asleep in a hammock on the bow. (pic from previous boat)
EVENING HIKE: You are finally starting to unwind and forget life ashore. The scenery helps.
TWILIGHT GLOW: Once the sun is below the horizon, the air goes still and the light turns blue.
DAY THREE: Photo Tour
SUNRISE PHOTOS: You awaken before sunrise and Steve takes you ashore just before sunrise to find the perfect location for capturing the morning light.
WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING – Steve awakened early and set out the traps to make fresh Crab Cake Benedict for breakfast.
SAILING AWAY: While other charters are sitting in busy harbors waiting for more wind, Manonash is cruising along for the next adventure.
PLAYING GAMES: Sometimes it’s nice to get out of the elements and go inside to read a book or play a game for a little while.
ORCAS! When you least expect it, you might hear the distinct sound of a killer whale clearing its blowhole as a pod appears from below.
R&R – After a long day on the water, a favorite activity is lounging on the bow at a secluded anchorage with a book and a cold beer. (It’s even better with someone to snuggle with.)
ANOTHER SUNSET: After dinner and dessert, it’s worth a short walk on the beach to experience a view like no other.
DAY FOUR: Photo Tour
MORNING KAYAK: You awaken to a morning mist and take your coffee with you on a kayak tour of a secluded anchorage.
WALK IN THE WOODS: We show you a remote trail leading into the forest. Where will it lead?
EYE TO EYE: The trail leads you to a clearing where you find yourself at eye level with bald eagles.
YAWN! Sometimes relaxation can be exhausting. (Dog not usually inciuded except on special pre-arranged charters.)
SUNSET STORM! You make it back to the boat to find that many other boats have snuck in, looking for a safe harbor to ride out a thunderstorm.
AFTER THE STORM: You take one last dinghy ride to shore as the storm lifts and a truly magical sunset appears before you.
DAY FIVE: Photo Tour
FOGGY MORNING: A short morning walk down a windy trail brings you to an eery lighthouse.
SEAL SNIFFS: The fog burns off quickly and you enjoy a lazy breakfast in the cockpit, when you notice a seal wanting to say hello.
SAILING ON: The wind is perfect, the sails are set, the sun is out. Perfection!
SHARKS! Sometimes there is a surprise waiting at the end of the line.
MAYDAY! Every once in a while, we might need to respond to distress calls in the area. It’s just the mariner’s way – the code of the sea.
SURPRISE: Not far down the trail, you find a mysterious structure that seems out of place.
SUCCESS: While you were on shore, Steve marinated the day’s catch and fired up the grill.
LIGHTING THE WAY: After dinner, you go ashore for a short sunset walk to an abandoned lighthouse.
DAY SIX: Photo Tour
MORNING WALK: You dinghy ashore for one last morning walk of peace and quiet.
SAILS UP! Why listen to an engine and breathe exhaust when the wind is all you need?
FAREWELLS: Even the sea stars are sad to see you go.
GOING HOME: After an amazing week together, we wave you off – either by ferry or sea plane back to civilization and will think of you often, awaiting your return.
